Candidate – Graduate

Our candidate had recently left university with a good degree and had worked in sales and marketing throughout his studies. He was looking for a company where he could learn from senior people and develop his sales and marketing skills to forge a career in this industry.

About the Role

Our client supplies medical products to businesses internationally. An opportunity arose in the commercial team for an assistant to the commercial director. Although they were initially looking for someone with a bit more experience, our candidate had worked whilst at university and showed a real passion for sales, so we asked that he be considered for the position.

The Outcome

After two interview rounds including presenting to the managing director our candidate was offered the role. Four years on he is still there and now working as a commercial executive in a fast-paced sales and purchasing role where his now responsible for two other members of staff and the team continues to expand.

Our Advice

If you are at university it would be a good idea to try and get as much work experience as possible, preferably in an industry you are interested in pursuing a career in. Lots of companies offer short term internships or vacation schemes – these give you valuable, practical experience which will complement your studies and impress potential employers.
